Studio Wall

December 11, 2025

Last summer Nick and I realized we don't have people staying with us enough to have a whole room dedicated to a guest room. Because I end up spreading everything around the living room/dining area/kitchen when I work on projects, turning the guest room into a studio seemed like the best alternative for that space. We still want people to stay over comfortably, so we purchased and built a murphy bed to clear up floor space and began painting the room. Nick helped with the solid white walls and ceiling, and afterward I worked on the mural. I started painting it on June 4th and completed it on June 29th. Some days I'd work a full day, others, just a few hours.

I originally designed these poppies as a repeating pattern for a trash makeover dress I was planning to make. Unfortunately, I was unable to compete that summer due to other obligations, so I blew up the image and re-designed it to include a kintsugi treatment. Kintsugi has always resonated with me. Every time a piece of me breaks, I feel like I'm able to pick up those pieces and make something better from them. My workspace is now a reflection of that sentiment, and I love it.
